LPHI’s statewide Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Initiative seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of Louisiana’s women, infants and children. Through partnership with the Louisiana Office of Public Health’s Maternal and Child Health Program, LPHI targets risk factors associated with maternal, infant and child morbidity and mortality including tobacco, breastfeeding, infant safe sleep, obesity, child injury and substance abuse. To support these efforts, LPHI develops strategic and implementation plans to reach the most vulnerable and affected MCH populations in addition to the promotion and development of policies that improve the health and wellbeing of maternal and child health populations. To ensure success of the MCH Initiative, LPHI has partnered with numerous organizations across Louisiana who are committed to better health for MCH populations including The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living, Louisiana Tobacco Control Program, Louisiana Council on Obesity Prevention and Management and the Louisiana Maternal and Child Health Coalition.
